[Martel was asleep in her bed when the toxin came, and she fell from her dreamless state of sleep to something much, much worse.

When you arrive in her dreamscape at first it seems empty, just blackness that seems to never end. It’s cold, and empty, and it’s almost like you’re trapped there, with nothing. Only when you take a step, does the blackness start to resolve into colors and pictures. A nightmare starts to take form, and you can’t escape until it plays out.

What’s your worst fear?]

[The mob focuses on him now, but it turns pleading and persuasive, almost like it's trying to convince him.]

You agree with us, don't you? Your life was ruined because of her. You say you don't blame her, but you do. Somehow, in some way.

[...Goddess he hates family reunions]

No. That was Mithos's doing, not her.

[But aren't they the best, Zelos? Especially with all your faceless ancestors talking creepily together?]

She doesn't know that. She doesn't even remember him, so she just assumes she's guilty. And she is, you know. She's guilty of all these deaths.

[yep, he's getting annoyed. ]

No, she's just as much a victim as any of you. If you're all Chosens, you should know better than to blame an innocent person for everything bad that happens.

But she's not innocent. She admitted to it herself. She caused all our pain. She says she's guilty! [The voices rise to a wail at that, but then cut off, grow silent. Then they start again, in that creepy monotone voice.] You know what happens to guilty people?

[Part of the mob parts to yank Martel forward. She doesn't even notice Zelos, doesn't even see him. She only has eyes for the noose the faceless mob is hanging over the branches of a dead tree that looks remarkably like the Kharlan Tree.] ...They die. Again.

-- Oh you gotta be kidding me!

[he's noticing Martel, how she's just going along with it]

Martel! Snap out of it!

[She doesn't even notice, Zelos. You're going to have to try harder than that. Especially with the mob almost carrying her over there, spitting insults at her.] Half-elves don't even deserve to live, and you pretended to be our Goddess! You probably laughed at everybody bowing down to you.

[If Zelos listens, he can probably hear Martel sobbing quietly over the crowd.]

[He growls and finally decides to take action, running through the crowd to grab at Martel to try to get these people away from her]

Shut up already!

[She feels herself get tugged in another direction, and she turns, and you can tell she's been crying. This is not what she expected, though.] Z-Zelos?

[Yep and he's still tugging, shoving with his other hand anyone who tries to stop him]

The one and only! We're getting out of here!

What are you even doing? Why aren't you with the mob...? [Yes, she really has to ask that question.]

Oh please! I'm much too pretty to be caught with these goons!

C'mon!

Zelos, that doesn't even make any sense! [She follows him, though, letting him drag her out from the crowd and away.]

Alright, theeeen I'll say that we're both much too pretty to die in a place like this!

[Good granny! Because he is very content on getting away from this family reunion from hell]

[She shakes her head, but lets him lead her.] A-all right...

[YOU SO ARE. but yep totally running]

[The mob gives chase, but they gradually fade into the background.] ...I think we can stop...

[He slows to a stop when she says so, taking a moment to catch his breath and look back]

You alright?

Y-yes, I think so. [She's a bit shaken, though.] Thank you, though...

Hey, it's no problem! I am the great Zelos Wilder!

Of course you are. [She grows serious.] And why did you really rescue me?

[a pause]

Because I know you feel guilty about everything that happened and I can't stop you from feeling that but...

I really hate when people find scapegoats.

[She sighs and here, have a Martel leaning on you, Zelos. This is her way of thanking you and apologizing for being a bit of an idiot.] You know, you're part of my family, right? One of people that I would do anything for.

[It will always surprise him a little, even if he's learning not to react to it externally- someone actually wanting him as family. He'll never quite get it]

Heh...

Well, then family sticks together.

Yes, yes they do. [She smiles up at him.]
