[Martel was asleep in her bed when the toxin came, and she fell from her dreamless state of sleep to something much, much worse.

When you arrive in her dreamscape at first it seems empty, just blackness that seems to never end. It’s cold, and empty, and it’s almost like you’re trapped there, with nothing. Only when you take a step, does the blackness start to resolve into colors and pictures. A nightmare starts to take form, and you can’t escape until it plays out.

[Oh thank god that's a comforting sound right there. The Once-ler winces, favouring his shoulder as he stands a little straighter, trying to locate the source of the voice]

...Once-Ler? [She appears them, seemingly out of thin air. She looks like she's in pain and completely desperate.] You shouldn't be here. Why are you here?

I don't know! I just woke up here with this...weird thing on my shoulder. [He glances around, looking for an escape route] Where are we?

...Trapped in my Cruxis Crystal. Outside, my body is like a soulless robot. I can see and hear everything that's going on outside, but I can do nothing. Which is why...I wonder why you're here. Why your soul is here.

[whichwayyoulean]

...See, that right there? Not comforting, Martel. Not comforting at all.

[heal_theworld]

[She gives a small smile, but only a small one.] It's not supposed to be. I still...don't know what you're doing here. I'm supposed to be alone in my own mind.

So this is your mind. Right. Okay.

[He winces again, rubbing his shoulder] So what's with the green stuff?

[heal_theworld]

[Martel looks alarmed.] You have it too? How is that possible? You don't have a Cruxis Crystal! [This is kind of Bad, Once-Ler. She's actually, honestly worried about you right now.]

[whichwayyoulean]

[Wait. He remembers her mentioning something about...]

Wait, wait. You mean the evil doom-y crystals of evil doom? That's what's on me?

[heal_theworld]

No, no. You don't have one. That's a disease caused by a Cruxis Crystal. Only two people have ever been known to have it. [She takes a deep breath.] I'm one of them.

[whichwayyoulean]

[But Martel YOU DIED. The Once-ler glances at his shoulder, then back at Martel]

...Oh that's not reassuring.

[heal_theworld]

Well, you won't die. Not right away. It can be cured! [That's not what killed her, Once-Ler. You're in the wrong nightmare for that.]

[whichwayyoulean]

Oh...good. I like the idea of not dying. That's a good idea. [PAUSE] So how do we cure it?

[heal_theworld]

You need a Rune Crest to put on a Cruxis Crystal. I don't have one, and you're in my mind-I think-so maybe that's why you have it?

[whichwayyoulean]

Oh...yippie. That's comforting. I feel really comforted right now.

[heal_theworld]

I have one... had one, but it doesn't seem to be working right now. And because we're trapped here... Unless the people outside fix it, we will slowly die. [This is not a comforting situation, Once-Ler.]

[whichwayyoulean]

...Gee thanks, don't sugar coat it on my behalf.

[heal_theworld]

There's not much to sugar coat, Once-Ler. [She sinks to the ground, pulling her knees up to her chest.]

[He stops when she sinks down, putting a hand on her shoulder] Well, come on. You're good at the optimism thing right? We can find a way out?

[heal_theworld]

There is no way out, Once-Ler. Once your soul is trapped within a Cruxis Crystal, it is trapped. A key crest can give you back your soul, but your soul still resides within the Cruxis Crystal, and will live forever once you are dead if the Crystal is not shattered.

[whichwayyoulean]

...You're great at making really bleak things even bleaker, you know that?

[heal_theworld]

[She headtilts.] Because I tell it like it is?

[He gives a nervous laugh]

Yeah, that's gotta be it.

You should try to leave. I doubt you'll be kept here.
