For some silly reason, Kenzi actually thought she might be able to best Kitt at video games. KITT! Former computer? It was going to be a bloodbath.

She grinned. "Is this per hand? Or for the whole night in general? Because, we need to establish that, Kittikins."

Damn. She was getting down and serious. "Per hand. Let's live dangerously." The last time he'd been over-confident he'd earned two weeks of hard labor. He'd play it smooth this time. Pretend he wasn't concerned, even if he was. A bit. Not that much.

"You are on. Cards, cards, we need cards."

"Cards are on you. You suggested something different." There was a smug tone in his voice.

She pointed a finger at him, scowling. "Don't you sass me, mister. I'll get cards. You see if I don't."

And she was going to start rummaging through everything, looking for a deck of please let them be there cards. "AHA!"

He wasn't moving from the couch. In fact, he'd gotten comfortable. Amused. "Oh. You've found some." Non-chalantly.

She held a deck triumphantly over her head, waggling them at him. "Damn rights I have. And you are going to be mine until you're old and grey, Mr. Carface. I'd look in to working on your arm muscles, because you are going to be my designated masseuse for eons."

Funny she should mention that, he was thinking of looking into some self-defense classes, or learning how to street-fight. Probably both. Someone at the castle had to know how to do those things. But he wouldn't do it just so he could massage her at her whim. He practically snorted at the idea.

His smile was pleasant. "That massage parlor will look good with your name on it."

He got a drawn out laugh at that. "Oh, no. No, no. The only one who's going to be slaving away here is you, Kitt-Katt. Suck it up, buttercup, and learn to be content with your new master."

The snort became a reality. "Oh, please." Should they go all out? Alcohol and cigars, snacks and suspenders? He offered her his hand. "Good luck. You'll need it."

"You might want to save some of that, bud."

She came over to the couch, taking her seat back and opening the deck, starting to shuffle with a few trick moves, just to put him on edge.

He inclined his head, playing into the role. Carface the mafia don. He watched her passively, willing himself to betray nothing.

She dealt them out, laying out the rules with ease, picking up her hand and staring at him over the edge of them. "Your move, Kitt-Katt."

All that he needed to do was find her tell. After that, it would be easy.

His eyes flicked from his cards to her, the smile still in place. He nodded easily at her, taking two cards out of his hand and placing them face down to the side, then motioned for two more. Watching her. Just. Watching her.

She'd been playing this game since she was five. She didn't have tells, Kitt. Gooooooood luck.

Sliding two cards over to him, she took three for herself, face as bland as it could possibly be. "Four days?"

Every human had tells. It was simply a matter of sussing them out. He studied his hand, not even looking up. Bored. "Four days per hand."

"What've you got, Kittikins?"

"Two pair." He didn't smoke, but it almost seemed like the game wasn't official without stale cigar smoke hanging in the air around their heads. Or with a spitty, chewed-up cigar hanging from his lips.

"Aces over eights." He laid the cards on the table, spread the cards out for her to see.

"Not bad," she said, giving him a grin before laying her own cards beside his. "Except my full house is better."

He frowned, looking at her cards. Wait. No. He was sure she'd been worried. He eyed her cards suspiciously, half-wondering if the cards had been doctored. Maybe not by her...

A slow look up to the ceiling, then back at her cards. "Mmmm." Nothing else. Just, 'mmmm.'

She snorted at him, gathering the cards together. "Don't even, buddy. I won fair and square."

He narrowed his eyes at her, sitting back in his chair. "Luck." The castle obviously liked her. A lot.

"Skill," she corrected, dealing out another hand.

"Mmmm." Again. As he watched her more carefully this time.

She picked up her hand, putting down one and picking up another. "How many you need, pouty lips?"
