[After a week of being stuck here and exploring the city, Giotto decided it was time to explore the castle itself. This place was actually quite large, and if he was going to be living here then he should explore it thoroughly. It always helped to be prepared, no matter what the situation, and from he's heard, this castle liked to do things to its residents on a regular basis. If he was going to keep with his promise and foil the castle at every turn, he needed to know what he had to work with. Knowing the enemy, one could say, because it was the building itself.

So today only, you'll find him wandering the halls and in public areas casually, almost lazily, though he's really inspecting them and cementing the layout of this place into his head. Come bother him on his wonderful endeavor.]

[It's tempting. It incredibly is. if he's reading, does he talk also? He must be a resident, at least. Is there a world where all animals talk out there, one of the alternate Earths that the Mare rings tie together?

But no, disturbing him would be completely rude. Especially since he seems engrossed in his book. But Giotto will keep casting glances that way.]

[The glances are enough to catch Mufasa's attention. He brings his head up from the book and smiles warmly at Giotto.]

Good afternoon.

[The voice stops him in his tracks, because he knows that voice. He's talked to him over the journal twice now, and both times it had gotten quite personal. The person who he thought was a wise man was a wise lion. Of course it was. But...just to make sure he hadn't misheard (and really, why would he mishear something like this?)...]

...Mufasa?

[Oh. And this was the voice he had been looking so forward to meeting in person. Mufasa can't help but laugh. He can tell from Giotto's face that he clearly was not expecting their meeting to go like this.

Mufasa? Well, he's not surprised at all, honestly.]

So we finally, meet, Giotto. I hope that you are not too startled by what you see.

[Of course he would laugh at his astonishment. Giotto hides his completely flustered expression behind one of utter unamusement.] And I sure you find it funny every single time you scare someone.

[He definitely seems like that type.]

Oh, come now, don't make such a serious expression. I assure you, you're not the first to be caught off-guard.

And I assure you, I was not caught off-guard. [And now he's just telling lies.] Much. [There, better. Less of a lie.]

Ah, of course, of course. I'm sure I only imagined your eyes widening and your bewildered tone.

[Stop it, Giotto. The more you deny, the bigger troll bait you become.]

Of course you did. [A pause.] But really, you enjoyed that, didn't you. [That is not a question, but Giotto's not mad. In fact he'll stroll over there, leaning on a wall near him.]

Ahh, I wonder what gave it away. [The laughter, maybe? Naaaaah.]

In any case, it is good to finally meet you in person. [He dips his head to the man.]

It was most certainly not your laughter. [Two can play at that game.]

And it is good to meet you, too. [He returns the nod.] Though I hope you aren't too disappointed by what you see. Everybody usually expects someone taller when they meet me.

Well, I must say, Giotto, you are plenty tall for my tastes.

Well, you're also considerably more low to the ground than the average man.

[Oh lord, Giotto. He'll get you used to his witty banter, yet. But right now, he's much more interested in you.]

Indeed. Have you the time for a small chat?

[He can do witty banter! Only not really. The most wittiest thing he's ever said rhymed. And he hasn't even said it yet.]

Of course I do. I wasn't doing anything particularly important. [Nope. Just casing the Castle. Nothing to see here.]

Then please, sit. [Mufasa nods to the table just nearby.]

[Giotto makes his way over and sits at the table, propping his chin up with his hand and looking over at Mufasa.]

[And as he does, Mufasa makes a note of the number of the page before closing it shut with his paw and sliding it off to the side.]

I hope you've settled in well enough?

As well as can be, of course. I have been kidnapped by a castle.

True enough. At least you weren't kidnapped by, say, a magical swampland. I'd imagine that'd be far less accommodating.

It wouldn't have nice rooms for one.

I'd dare say it'd have much to offer at all, aside from some grouchy crocodiles and other similarly hospitable animals.

[Is he kidding? It's hard to tell, with him.]

I'd rather not get eaten by any crocodiles, thank you. [Do crocodiles eat people in Mufasa's world? Are there any people at all? So many question, but he won't ask them.]

Ah, they're not so bad, once you get to know them. They can just be a little testy sometimes. [Well, that answers that question. Sort of.]

[It answers the question admirably. But now, here's another.] Do all animals talk on your version of Earth?
