[Nightmares are never fun, no matter where you go. But things take a bit of a turn for the worse when you've jumped into the mind of a ninja. A ninja that can look into other people's heads, to be exact.

So which path will you pick?]

[she just shakes her head, letting her arms loop around his waist, now]

I don't even want to know where you got those.

[A small smile crosses his face at that action, despite mentally berating himself for it. He really shouldn't let himself be comfortable with this, it'll only make him want something he can neither have nor deserves. This will only leave him falling deeper into something he's already struggling to get out of. He'd of thought he'd learned his lesson about hope by now. It only serves to hurt you further down the line.

Still, despite all this, the arm around her gives her a gentle squeeze]

I had a joke book when I was a kid. A bad one, it turns out.

[she honestly isn't thinking about that at all; it's just that she's craved human contact for so long, she wants to get as much in as possible before the inevitable occurs]

What do you get when you cross a snowman with a vampire?

[He tilts his head to one side in faux thought, before giving a shrug]

I don't know, what do you get when you cross a snowman with a vampire?

[there's a bit of a sly tone to her voice when she answers]

Frostbite.

[That does get a snort out of him]

Wow, and you say my jokes are bad.

No, I'm pretty sure the peanut one was worse. Or the one you told the other day.

[ ... wait, what? didn't she say she'd been here alone? hmm ...]

[...Uh oh. The Once-ler pauses, then delicately:]

Ino, I wasn't here the other day...

[she just continues, as if this is obvious] In the journal. We were talking, remember?

I... when? When were we talking? [This is worrying, this is very worrying]

[she keeps one hand clutching at his lapel as she reaches for her journal and opens it to a page where they were having a conversation. ... unfortunately, that conversation a) has no joke in it and b) is from a time when they'd practically just met.

but she holds it up to show him triumphantly, smiling]

See? You said you couldn't come here anymore, but we could still talk sometimes.

[The Once-ler stares at that journal page, his eyes scanning the page for anything remotely of what Ino's talking about. But no, it's not there, it's not there at all]

I... [He pauses, then carefully, oh so carefully;] Ino, I think you're confused.

[she sets the journal into her lap with a little frown ...]

You don't remember? [she pauses, before looking down at her lap dejectedly] I guess that makes sense. You must be busy, wherever you were.

[He watches her for a moment, before shaking his head]

Don't talk crazy, Ino. [Okay not the best choice of words, but he'll soldier on] I'd never be too busy for you.

But ... [you said you didn't remember :c SHE DOESN'T GET IT]

[He sighs, leaning over to take the journal from her] These entries are really old... I mean, super old, Ino.

[she looks up at him, to REALLY look at him. he's not joking around ... she looks back at the journal, now, staring]

I don't understand.

[He'll give her the benefit of the doubt]

Maybe the castle made you think you could hear voices in it recently...

But I did! I've been talking to everyone just fine!

[yeaaah she's getting upset again. because it's not exactly fun to think that all this time she's just been imagining these conversations]

And maybe as far as you were concerned you really were. You know what Paradisa is like for mind games.

[This isn't helping, he frowns] But it's okay, right? We can beat this thing.

[she frowns, clutching at his shirt tightly now, if only for confirmation that he's definitely there. if she was imagining the voices in the journal ...]

Beat it?

[He'll offer her a reassuring smile]

Sure. Show this castle it can't keep us down, right?

But it can. [lmfao you know it's sad when ino is more negative than him] It can do whatever it wants.

[she'll be glancing up at him, confused]
