He was hungry. It wasn't until he smelled the food that it hit him, but he couldn't deny it now. He sighed, not resisting. He'd never win.

He rolled over, then sat up, hands folded in his lap, eyes directed at the floor. "I'm sure that's very comforting."

With a sigh, she decided it was time to take one for the team. "You know, I was kinda enjoying myself more than I should have, too." Patting his thigh, she got up and went to her bed, grabbing a sub and handing it over to him.

He took it from her, trying to gauge her sincerity, while he watched her. It was a nice thing to say, trying to make him feel better.

He broke off a piece of the sub, shoving it in his mouth and chewing slowly, more hungry than he'd thought. "I'm really sorry, Kenzi."

Giving him a smirk and letting her eyes linger over him, she said, "Trust me, Kitt, you don't have anything to be sorry for." That might have come out a bit less subtly than she'd intended, but... mmm.

Then she shook her head to clear it, sitting on her own bed and unwrapping her sub to start on.

"No, I mean for everything. Ever since I got here you've been taking care of me." He held up the sub. "Feeding me, showing me the way around, teaching me about this place, trying to get me involved in things, having to give up your privacy to accommodate me.. aren't you tired of babysitting me? And this is how I've repaid you. You were pretty adamant about not wanting to... 'hook up', did you call it? With anyone. I didn't mean to disrespect your wishes. I am so, so sorry."

Zoomed right over his head. Don't worry about subtle, Kenzi.

She picked off a piece of meat with her fingers, bringing it to her mouth as she thought about the best way to answer that. "Kitt, guys and girls who live together can have a weird dynamic. I mean, neither of us are ugly, and I know I'm a healthy individual in all ways. Hard not to notice what's right in front of you."

Taking another piece, she looked over at him. "No, I don't intend to hook up while I'm here, because I want to go home. But life has a way of totally screwing you over, so... who knows? I could wind up doing exactly that. And hey, at least this way I wouldn't get cockblocked by a succubus roomie, hmm?"

She was going to ignore all the other stuff, because, well, that was just being half-way decent.

"I want to go home too. That's never far from my thoughts." Everything else should have been a distraction. Sometimes distractions have a way of becoming more important than long-term goals. But she had said herself that they'd have to adapt, and life couldn't be put on hold just because they weren't where they wanted to be.

He shrugged, listening and chewing, paying most of his attention the the sandwich. "I still haven't taken a good look at myself. I want to remember myself the way I was." Hence the finger combing. But she was right - she certainly wasn't ugly. He noticed that, whether he wanted to or not.

He had to chuckle at that, still not quite looking at her. "You won't get... 'cockblocked' by me, either. I promise." It was the least he could do.

That didn't go unnoticed, either.

She'd taken a bite of her sub, giving him a pair of lifted brows at that. Setting it down on the wrapper, she chewed and got up, coming over and gesturing for him to put his sub down, tugging on him to join her.

"Well, come on, then. You need to scope yourself out properly, K-man. Otherwise, you're going to catch a glimpse in a mirror and punch it or something."

But... the sub was good! And he was hungry!

She always won.

"No more punching for me." He winced at the memory of the last time he'd punched something. His hand still wasn't healed up yet.

"Kenzi." He paused, placing a hand on her arm to stop her for a minute, wondering how to say this without sounding ridiculous. "Your succubus friend - Bo? You don't need her abilities."

The hand on her arm would have stopped her - he didn't actually touch her much - but the words had her stopping and looking up at him. There was a blush, and she ducked her head quickly, tugging him towards the bathroom. "Around her, I do. I love her to bits, but she has an appetite, and that means she sucks up all the available men in a mile radius. And none of them notice anything but her."

Not that she was bitter about it or anything; she really did love Bo. She just wished she didn't have to feel like she was begging for scraps or resigned to living off sloppy seconds, which... eww.

She kept tugging him towards the bathroom, aiming him at the mirror. "Trust me, Kitt. She'd take one look at you and eat you alive."

The blush was pretty; it flattered her. "Now she has competition." Sincere, innocent honesty, no pretenses, no real clue how it might actually sound. He simply meant that he didn't think Kenzi had anything to worry about, no matter how strong Bo's succubus mojo might be.

The mirror. He'd been avoiding it, much he avoided food and sleeping until they were absolutely necessary. Now he couldn't. He had to look - and when he did, he sucked in a breath of surprise. "I look like Bonnie."

And the blush deepened just a bit, making her chew on her lip to keep from letting a goofy grin plaster itself over her face. She didn't believe him for a minute, but it was nice of him to make the attempt.

"You do not look like a girl. Trust me." She stood behind him, peering around his shoulder. "Who's Bonnie?"

He locked his eyes with hers, until the allure of the mirror drew his full attention. Most of his attention.

"No, no. Not like that. I look like Bonnie. My programmer. My technician." He looked at Kenzi, then back at his reflection. "My mother."

"... Really? Huh. That's... kinda cool. I mean, if the castle's going to give you a body, making you look like mommy dearest is kind of... sweet." She grinned at his reflection, hand on his arm. "But see? I was right. You're tasty. So, really, I totally can't be held responsible for any ogling or responses to you and your numminess."

Blowing him a kiss, she turned and went back to her bed, sitting and picking up her sub again.

He was hearing her, but he wasn't really listening, studying his reflection with interest and a touch of homesickness. The resemblance - maybe not uncanny, but undeniable. Same dark hair, same slender build, same light eyes. He was honored to have the castle choose this appearance for him - honored, and humbled. He glanced over at her, taking one last long look before following her out of the bathroom.

"Of course you can't be held responsible for the actions of others." Silly girl. What a strange thing to say. The idea that he might be attractive to others appealed to his ego, but it also left him feeling slightly hollow inside.

Wow. He really was slow. "My ogling at your numminess, Kitt. Jeez. Keep up with the class. So, if I get to ogle you, kinda unfair if I get all bent out of shape if you sport a chubbo over grinding on my keister." With that, she took a big bite of her food, munching away happily.

Her? Oh. That made his eyebrows creep up into his hairline. Her, really? So. Well. Interesting. It changed the dynamic, didn't it?

But he was getting ahead of himself, because it really didn't change anything at all. She'd said herself that friends could be attracted to friends, so it didn't mean anything, for him either.

He could deal with things in those terms.

She finally got a real smile out of him, both relieved and embarrassed, as he finally nodded in understanding. "It sounds fair. I'm glad we could come to this arrangement." Not that he'd let it happen again, mind you.

Mmm, food. His appetite was back.

"Good. Because I don't want you going all Sheldon Cooper on me and flailing anytime I try to give you a hug or something. I'm huggy. Deal with it."

Said through a mouthful of food, her hand covering her mouth. The smile was better on him than the frown, and she was glad they'd found a way to move past that total awkwardness. Living together could be full of all sorts of pitfalls, and she didn't want to make this any more messed up than it was.

Sheldon... Cooper? "An ex of yours?" If so, he wasn't flattered by the comparison. "I don't flail. Much." Bite of sandwich, meet mouth. He sort of liked her hugs. It was something he wasn't used to at first, as cars didn't seem to get many hugs, but he was becoming accustomed to her invasion of his personal space. Even coming to anticipate it.

Best to have some of these things sorted out in the early days, most definitely. He could face her again.

She snorted a laugh. "Dude, we have to get you into tv. He's a character on a show. Genius, but is phobic of all forms of social communication, especially touch."

Deal with it, Kitt. You were her new cuddle toy, unless her attentions got captivated elsewhere. But, that wasn't likely to happen. Was it?

"Oh." No, Kitt had problems of his own, but he wasn't phobic to touch. Not being used to it and being phobic were two different things entirely. "That doesn't sound like me."

Ah, one could never be too sure of these things, and he would not interfere if they did. Roommate Etiquette, 101.

Good sandwich.

And because she could, she might have been a little suggestive with the way she ate her food, but that was just teasing. He was like this big ol' naive thing, and she liked having the chance to mess with him while she could.

Because he was smart enough that he'd pick up on what he could and couldn't do quickly enough. She wasn't looking forward to the day when he wouldn't fall for something or stopped reacting the way he did now, which was honestly.

"Good. So, what do you wanna do for the rest of the night, hmm?"

Teasing that left him more than a little breathless, making it hard to concentrate on eating his own sandwich. Eyes to the floor, that was enough of that.

There was still time. Every day he was understanding more about the personal aspects of humanity, but he wasn't there yet.

His sandwich was nearly gone; it surprised him that he'd eaten the entire thing. He raised his shoulders in an exaggerated shrug, popping the last bit of the sub into his mouth.

"I assume trying to get more rub time from you is a no-no, at least for tonight," she smirked as she said that, waggling her brows at him.

"But, if you want, we can play a few rounds and see if you can get any better?"

He shook his head at her with a shy smile, his cheeks pinkening in embarrassment again. They may have gotten past the awkwardness, but he still wouldn't forget this evening. "A safe assumption, I'm afraid."

"We're not going to wager this time, are we?"
