So many days into summer and not a single pool party yet! Today castle residents may hear some noise wafting from the lawn and pool along with that distinct smell of the barbecue roaring. Oh yeaaah, Barney Stinson's got you covered, Paradisa!

The lawn area has been decked out all in colors, with the grills to one side and the chocolate fountain to another. For those more inclined to chill out and soak up the sun, there are picnic rugs rolled out on the green grass among any kind of game you could wish for. The pool itself has a few floating beds thrown in and all sorts of toys, with a changing tent set up just nearby for anyone who decides they want to get wet and wild after all!

All the fun is for forgetting recent horrors the residents have been through. So once the sun goes down, there will be a time to write down all unpleasantness, and set it to fire. But be careful not to stay out too late; the Castle may have a different idea of Cinderella once midnight strikes.

Barney's taken the first shift at the barbecue pit, before his helpers show up. One grill is covered in burgers and hot dogs, and the other has a round of chicken wings in a thick buffalo marinade going. He has a dark green apron on so he doesn't get sauce all over his outfit, but aside from that, you guys have the swankest grill chef in history, pretty much.

At the moment, he's dancing and twirling his grill tongs as he's waiting for the perfect flipping moment. When he catches sight of you, he smiles like he's been waiting for you - YES YOU! - to show up, and the party couldn't start till you walked in.

"Hey, there you are! What up?"

Utena starts to question the wisdom of wearing a white jacket over her swimsuit once she sees those hot wings, but she's quickly distracted by the guy working the grill. The dancing is a bit goofy, but hey, he's not bad.

And then he starts to talk.

"Who, me?"

Utena blinks in surprise. Sure, he seems friendly enough, but they haven't met, have they?

"Who else would I be talking to?" He grins. "I mean, I invited everybody, so when somebody shows up, I wouldn't be a very good host if I didn't say hi. ... I'm Barney. Thanks for coming."

She smiles back, and says, "I'm Utena, Utena Tenjou. And I should be the one thanking you! I mean, even in a place like this, throwing a big party's gotta be a lot of work. Did you do all of this yourself?"

"The Awesomeness Committee helped - it's our first big bash in over a year. I would've done one sooner, but some unexpected traveling came up." He sighed, looking out past the castle to the horizon.

"You know how it is around here - one minute you're minding your business, the next morning you wake up as an inanimate object, someone picks you up, puts you in their bag on a trip out to the Dead Zone, and you fall out unnoticed.... then it's one long slog back to the castle, one misadventure leads to another, and ... suddenly you've been gone so long people thought you got sent home."

That's a swank grill chef indeed. It was almost odd seeing someone so well dressed attending the grill. The guy must be confident in his skills to wear white while working with sauces.

Ohjiro gives a wave and a smile, recognizing Barney's voice from the journals. He met the man in charge of this whole party already.

"Good afternoon. Would you be Barney-san, perhaps?"

"That's me, bro." He smiles. "We spoke over the journal the other day, right? I don't think I caught your name."

Ohjiro nodded, that smile remaining on his face. "Ohjiro Mihara. A pleasure to meet you in person, Barney-san."

"Nice to meet you, too." He grins. "Is it just me, or are there a lot of Japanese people that get pulled in here? I think I've met about half a dozen already, today."

Phoebe stopped at the familiar voice, turning to look his way with a smile on her face. She's looking hot as ever as she steps over to the man who she was still unconvinced remembered everything from his previous stay at the castle.

"Hello, Barney."

"Heeeeeeeeeeeey, Phoebe." He'd heard her voice enough times to know it, by now, thankfully. "Lookin' awesome as ever. Man, you haven't changed a bit."

She smirked at him, propping one hand on her hip as she teased, "Well I'd certainly hope not. It hasn't been that long, after all."

"Hey, some people change a lot. Lily went to California once and came back with black hair and all kinds of weird hippie artsy tendencies. You could've had a heavy metal phase, how would I have known?"

Being a hobbit, Frodo naturally gravitates to food. Especially hot, just-cooked food, and beer. Oh wow, so much beer. Consider him the happiest hobbit in all the universes at this moment. He very nearly drops his plastic plate at the shout, staring up wide-eyed at the friendly cook.

"Hullo!" He peers to check out the grills, unable to see much aside from the smoke. Woe. "Have you any bacon, by any chance?"

"Have we any bacon." Barney scoffed, rolling his eyes with a smile. "Of course we have bacon, it's a barbecue, isn't it?"

Pointing the tongs at a plate nearby, loaded up with strips of varying crispiness from just cooked enough to nearly-charcoal, he shrugged. "Help yourself, bro."

Oh... bacon heaven. His eyes widen at the sight of it but it seems rude to just help himself. Still he goes to pile on a generous heap on his plate before offering it to the cook.

"Have you had any? I could take the next turn cooking."

"Hey, thanks." Barney grins, glad there are so many people showing up who want to actually participate and contribute to the awesomeness quotient. "I had a couple Powerbars and a Red Bull before I got back here, so I'm good.... You go ahead and chow down, first, but I'll totally need a hand once people start piling up. We can get a milk crate for you to stand on or something."

Spike was just going to walk through the party and steal some food off the grill when he seems to be caught. Now Spike will have to pretend that he came by to socialize.

"Think you have enough?"

"If we don't, more's just a wish away, man." With a grin, Barney flipped over a burger and started dealing slices of cheese onto the front row of patties like he was at a blackjack table. "You want a burger?"

He watched, momentarily transfixed by the show. Having steady food since he arrived, he still acted like he'd never eaten a full meal in his life. In a minute he'll get around to what he was really after.

"Sure, I'll take one."

"How do you like it? Still mooing, hockey puck, or somewhere in between?"

Gren is taking all this in with a small grin on his face. It's quite a party, and honestly a lot more his speed than the masquerade a month or so ago - wine fountain not withstanding. He wishes he could have dragged Vicious down here, but crowds weren't his thing. Maybe he'd snag some of that delicious food to go.

He glances at Barney. "Just checking out the spread. I'm impressed."

"Desired affect achieved," he pronounced, with a flourish of his tongs. "What can I get you? Burger, hot dog, chicken wings...?"

"Oh man, it's more a question of where do I start? A burger sounds good though," he said, clearly amused by Barney. "Are you really doing this all yourself?"

"I got first run," he shrugged, checking the burgers he already had on. "The rest of the committee is doing shifts. .... I've got some medium rares almost done, if you like it that way. Otherwise it'll be another minute."
