[Nightmares are never fun, no matter where you go. But things take a bit of a turn for the worse when you've jumped into the mind of a ninja. A ninja that can look into other people's heads, to be exact.

So which path will you pick?]

[He gets up, moving towards her again, slowly and carefully, his hands held up in front of him to show he means no harm]

I'm not going anywhere, I promise. See? I'll stay right here.

[ino]

Liar ... !

[She tilts her head back to yell at the ceiling]

You can't fool me again! So just STOP IT!

[whichwayyoulean]

[He's sensing a little bit of crazy here. He edges forwards again, waving a hand carefully in front of her face]

Okay, what will it take to make you believe me?

[ino]

[she swats at his hand again, before burying her face in her hands. miserably:]

Stay. Just stay, and don't go.

[whichwayyoulean]

Okay, I can do that.

[He moves to sit beside her, resting his chin on his knees as he tilts his head to watch her]

See? Not going anywhere.

[ino]

[She's silent for a few moments, taking some shuddery breaths to calm down, and moving to clutch her journal to her chest. Finally she'll speak]

Why today?

[whichwayyoulean]

I don't know, I just found myself here. Whatever the reason, I'm glad I did.

[Who knows how long she's been here like this. Whatever the castle's been pulling, it's not good]

[ino]

But nobody's been here for years. And now today, there was already someone else ...

[whichwayyoulean]

It's like buses maybe. You wait all day for one and then two show up at once.

[He offers her a small smile] See? Still here.

[ino]

[Irritably:] It doesn't matter. You're going to leave, even if it's not right away. There's no point.

[whichwayyoulean]

[The Once-ler opts to shift position, leaning up against the sideboard, tipping his hat over his eyes a little and folding his arms behind his head]

Well, you're sure going to look dumb when it turns out I'm not going anywhere, won't you?

[ino]

[Okay, she really can't take this anymore. She stands up, bits of broken wall falling off her shoulders, and just kicks him in the side to make him fall over]

[whichwayyoulean]

[And fall over he does, in an ungainly heap of stupidly long limbs]

Okay ow. What was that for?

[ino]

Don't you get it?! I can't DO this! [she puts her hands to her head, pulling at her hair. she's practically screaming at him, at this point] I can't take another person leaving, not anymore! So just leave me the fuck alone, okay?!

[ino]

[... she stops, crouching down again, hiding her face in her hands again because she feels the tears coming on again. if you thought she looked small before, she looks even smaller now, curled in on herself.

yeaaahhh .... if it wasn't obvious she's cray cray yet ... welp.]

Just leave me alone.

[whichwayyoulean]

[Yep, it's very clear she's crazy now. The Once-ler stops fooling around and sits up again. Okay he's not good at the hugging thing, but now he'll carefully pull her into his arms, soothing her back]

Hey, shhh. I'm not going to leave okay? I absolutely promise you.

[ino]

[She's honestly too tired to fight back, anymore -- and she's missed being held by someone so much. She tenses at first, but then she just sort of slumps into him, sniffling into his jacket]

[whichwayyoulean]

[He gives her a gentle squeeze, not entirely sure if this was the best way to comfort her or not. But hey, at least she's stopped yelling]

It'll be okay, Ino.

[His heart aches for her, it really does. He may have resigned himself to a fate of being alone for a good portion of the rest of his life, but Ino? No way. She needed and deserved to have people around her. She didn't deserve this. Not at all]

[ino]

[She shakes her head -- no, it won't be okay, but she doesn't say any more. She just reaches up to wrap her arms around him, burying her face in his shirt.]

Please don't go, Once-ler ...

[This is so unbelievably pathetic of her, and honestly pretty pointless, but she's long since past caring about these things.]

[This is so unlike her, it's almost harrowing. To see her so scared and broken. How dare the castle do this to her. It had no right. No right at all.

He frowns softly, allowing her to cling as much as she wants. If it makes her feel even the slightest bit better, even the slightest bit secure that he's not going anywhere, he's all for it. He realises this would be the time to tell her how he really feels about her. That he really wouldn't ever leave her. That all she has to do is ask and he'd do anything she wished of him. That he - No. That wouldn't help her at all. She has Gale, someone she actually deserves, which is far more than he could say about himself. Gale'd show up eventually to save her from this. That's how it's supposed to be.

He sighs and rubs her back soothingly, resting his chin on the top of her head]

I won't go. I promise.

[ino]

[Unfortunately, she knows that as much as anyone may want to promise her that they'll never go ... no one has ever been able to keep that promise. Not that it's their fault -- it's all the castle. But it doesn't change the fact that she knows it's a completely outlandish and stupid thing to say.

Right now, though, she just focuses on trying to calm down. She's practically curling right up in his lap, holding on like she might fall through the floor if she doesn't. She takes deep, careful breaths, trying to get herself under control again, though she's about as far from calm right now as she could possibly be]

[He doesn't appear to mind. He understands, he really does, that horrific moment as everyone leaves you. The desperate wish for just ONE of them to not stay as one by one they vanish from your life for good. It's the worst kind of feeling, and he hopes whatever this mess is, that it's not real. That everything will be back to normal and she never has to go through this for real.

His fingers move to her hair, brushing through it in an attempt to soothe her. Then, softly, with the tiniest hint of a smile, trying to keep her mind off this mess:]

Knock knock.

[ino]

[Unfortunately for her, she is pretty damn sure this is real right now -- in fact, the thought of it not being real hasn't even crossed her mind. It feels real, and everything in her mind is telling her it's true -- after all, it's so easy to get swept away in a dream, even if it's unrealistic or silly.

The fingers in her hair are definitely soothing, and after a few moments some of her tension vanishes, and she turns her head a little to just let her cheek rest on his chest. Maybe if she doesn't let go at all, he'll stay. Wasn't that the mistake she'd made with Tsuna?

It surprises her when he speaks up, though, and it takes her a moment to remember the right response]

... Who's there?

[whichwayyoulean]

[He certainly wouldn't deny her that. Anything that made her feel even marginally better. Anything that took even a small piece of her fears away from her.

To which his point. He continues the soothing hair stroking]

Aardvark.

[ino]

[ ... well, she's never heard that word before, so:]
