Tonight, in the sky, there are fireworks.

You can see them from the hotel window, but for a better look -- so suggests the helpful concierge at the desk -- you'll want to head to Sumida, where locals and tourists alike gather on the edge of the Sumida River.

[Technically the festival is supposed to happen on the last Saturday of July, but whatever! It's Paradisa. For more information on the festival please visit here, and you can watch YouTube videos here.]

[Located in Northeastern Tokyo, Sumida is considered part of the city's "old town," with many pre-World War II buildings and somewhat of a "small neighborhood" vibe.

But right now, it's packed. There are locals and tourists alike in yukata and Western clothing, mostly clustered around the edge of the river as they try to get a better look at the fireworks, and the streets are lined with game stalls and food vendors.]

[There is a woman here, dressed in neither a yukata nor Western clothing. She has on some kind of weird poncho, and is looking at the fireworks with very mild interest, like she just wanted to see what all the noise was about.

She shouldn't be familiar to any of the castle residents, but the way she's dressed definitely doesn't mark her as a local, either.

After a few minutes, she will turn to leave.]

[And that was enough to catch a very bored Conan's attention. He silently starts to follow her without saying a word to anyone.

Who was she? What was she doing?]

[Ezio almost misses her, as she looks the same as basically every other chick he has seen here, but he notices this chick precisely because of her weird poncho thing. He sidles up beside her, looking somewhat amused. He is going to hit on her because he is Ezio.]

Not impressed, dolcezza?

[The last thing Blues wanted was to be cooped up in that hotel clinic the entire time he was here. So the very first chance he got he bailed out of that place to take a look around the city. He had gotten used to breathing now but he still felt terribly weak. One hand continued to clutch his chest as he leaned up against a tree to watch the fireworks.

Being human had gotten really old, really fast for him.]

[Guess who's spotted you from his stupidly tall advantage in the crowd, Blues? Yeah, that's right. Once wanders over, folding his arms]

Aren't you supposed to be in the hospital?

[wow, fireworks twice in the same month! Ted wonders what this one is all about. He followed the crowd and is also standing near the edge of the river. The free-flowing water is pretty amazing in itself. He's seen the ocean, ponds and lakes, but this is his first experience with a river.

He eats a riceball while he watches the fireworks]

[Sup Ted, sup. Once-ler wanders over, overtowering over most everyone as always]

There you are. ow this? This is a safe distance from fireworks.

[Toboe's never seen fireworks before, but the loud booming noise and lights in the sky send him flying to the nearest hiding spot he can find. He tries hiding himself behind a trashcan, but it's pretty obvious he's there.]

[Ben's never left America (or hell, Georgia all that much) in his life, so this is a new experience for him. He's been keeping to himself, mostly, but the fireworks have brought him out, seems like Paradisa has a theme this month.

The wolf (or is it a big dog? he can't quite tell) catches his attention. He'll smile, crouching a little to peer at Toboe]

[London can easily be spotted in an elegant pastel pink kimono, embroidered with golden flowers and blue birds. When someone tipped her off about the event, she'd bought it just for the occasion, regardless of the fact that yukata are better suited for an event such as this. Although if asked, she wouldn't be able to tell you the colors she's wearing. Her hair, however, is in an up-do typical of western style. Elaborate? Yes. But it's London. No one should expect anything less. She holds a fan, waving it swiftly to ward off the heat and the tiny buzzing insects.]

[This is kind of way too crowded and loud, but whatever. Brock has been going out of his mind just going bar hopping -- he doesn't do idle very well, so unless he wanted to fill his hotel room with bonsai trees for the rest of the week (or however long this was going to last), he was going to have to make do.

At least the locals are giving him a wide berth as he picks his way through the crowd toward the food vendors. The advantages of being huge.]

[Maladict is certainly not huge, and her new found humanity is working against her. She can't even just pick people up to move them, or give them a flash of fang to send them scuttling on their way. Gods, she hates this.

It's hard to miss Brock in a crowd, and so she heads off in his direction, having to jog a little to catch up. When did she get so slow? Eventually, she makes it next to him, trying to settle into a more casual stroll but not quite managing it. It's a lot easier to do this when she's slowing herself down for HIM]

[Molotov is finally over her shitfit, and now she's just vaguely sad. She's carrying a blanket to go pick a spot for fireworks watching when she spots her enormous husband and begins to follow him.]

[Jennifer loved fireworks; Blue, on the other hand, had chosen to stay in their hotel room. So she spent some time walking alone among the stalls before buying something to eat and standing off to the side, watching and eating.]

[Castle had been thoroughly enjoying himself in Japan- despite the outdated technology, it was a place he had always wanted to visit, and he'd taken the opportunity to buy a blue yukata with a purple sash and wore it proudly as he perused the festival, sampling here and there.]

[Conan was in a bad mood.He'd come out to the festival for the distraction, but everything he saw here was making him think of Ran. Everything, from the yukata he was wearing to the food and the booths. When he sees Castle he sighs and turns around to leave.

He didn't really want to talk to anyone right now.]

[Mitsuru didn't bother with the yukata. She knows something is gonna go down with these world changes, so she's not gonna be wearing something impractical when that happens. Instead, she's wearing her usual black jacket, white riding pants and a pair of black riding boots with no high heels.

She's just leaning against her parked motorcycle while watching the fireworks. She still manages to enjoy the fireworks despite what could happen anytime soon. Right beside her is a pocket sized, die-cast metal F-15 Eagle model with a red tip on it's right wing. It's sitting idly on the seat area of her motorcycle]

[Heeello there, miss red-head. With Wizard resting on his arm, Ohjiro steps up beside Mitsuru, staring up at the fireworks.]

Seems the festival came quite early this year.

[He'd assume it's got something to do with the castle.]

[Luke's busy indulging himself in buying local treats for himself. He's squeezing through crowds of people trying to get a good look at the fireworks, nearly getting stepped on in the process.]

I wish I were taller...

[Honestly, her plan hadn't been to stop for fireworks. Once it had started getting dark, Cass had set out on her own with only one goal:

Climb everything with more than ten floors. And yes, she can totally do it even in her outfit.

Of course, once things start exploding in the sky, she kind of has to stop and watch. The fireworks in Paradisa had been nice, but there's just something a little more spectacular about these ones.]

[ Italy had fireworks in her time too, but nothing comparable to this.

Pity that Lucrezia is still too polite to hustle her way to the front and yet not tall enough to look over the crowd even with her geta and yukata. Her blonde hair still makes her easy to spot, but it doesn't mean she can't play dress up blend in in other ways. ]

[Wade is here, meandering through the crowd and checking out the souvenirs on display. She's decided to dress for the occasion in a pretty yellow yukata she bought. Might as well get into the spirit of things, she figures. When would she have the chance to actually be in Tokyo, of all places? Still, a part of her wishes her friends were here to enjoy this.

She does her best to push that away and smiles as she picks up a tiny plastic beckoning cat toy.]

[Chihiro is determined on enjoying herself, even if she's on her own. It felt like forever since she'd been "home" and able to enjoy a festival and who knew if this would be her last one?

So she's shuffling around in a cute yukata, barely standing out in the crowds with her small stature. She's had a bit of festival food already and is currently enjoying some cotton candy, waiting for the fireworks]

[ Anne is normally drawn to crowds and parties, fireworks and drink, though it hasn't been the case of late. It's hard to resist when there's little else to do, having nothing personal to keep her attention in her room here, and too intrigued by the exotic nature of the Eastern culture to resist for long.

She had even changed out of the strange black outfit she'd woken up in, finding the closest thing to an outfit she could vaguely recognize and deign to wear, even if she's still repulsed by it's lack of vision, at least it's in a color she likes. She watches the fireworks with a seemingly empty gaze, transfixed like the others but seeing a different set of fireworks in her mind's eye now. ]
